CESC’s CSR approach focuses on being considerate and effective in order to create a positive impact. One key area is reducing infant and child mortality by integrating safe motherhood and child survival programs. Under the ‘SNEH’ (Sustainable Nutrition and Health Education) initiative, the company aims to improve maternal, child health and nutrition while increasing community awareness on related issues. This has benefitted 5,492 mothers and children so far. Additionally, health camps were organized in Pujali and Budge Budge where vision tests were conducted for 536 underprivileged community members.
The company believes an empowered society is achieved through holistic growth and upskilling people to attain self-reliant and sustainable livelihoods. Towards this, CESC has undertaken multiple skill development initiatives through its 12 ‘Eklavya’ (CESC Skill Academy) centers across Kolkata, Howrah, and the 24 Parganas districts. So far, 1,622 people have been trained, with 1,043 being placed in jobs.

The ‘Urja Chetana’ initiative builds capacity among teachers and students on sustainability issues like air pollution, waste management, rainwater harvesting and biodiversity conservation, benefitting 5,869 students and 325 teachers. The ‘Kiran’ project focuses on community-based waste management by converting organic waste into vermicompost, impacting 1,000 people. Lastly, the ‘Jaldhara’ rainwater harvesting project at Kolkata Medical College and Hospitals provides an alternative water source for 3,000 patients and staff.
