CSR for Cancer care
The National Cancer Institute was inaugurated in the end of April, 2023 which has been built with a whopping Rs 550 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. A major chunk has been contributed by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) as well as top private companies like Adani and Reliance group. The purpose is to provide low cost cancer treatment especially to the underprivileged sections of the society and fund collection for this began in 2014.
NCI has been built by Dr. Abjaji Thatte Seva Aur Anusandhan Sanstha, a trust named after Dr. Thatte, an RSS missionary. Started in 2017, the hospital has completed its second phase and was dedicated to the public in April 2023. Inauguration was done in presence of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Billionaire Gautam Adani.
CSR of Infosys for Diabetes reversal
Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a prevalent form of diabetes worldwide, necessitating medication and insulin therapy to manage blood sugar levels. However, what if we could halt the progression of diabetes without relying on medication or bariatric surgery? Research suggests that T2D patients can restore healthy blood sugar levels through lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and healthy weight loss.
As part of its commitment to addressing the escalating burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in India, Infosys Foundation aims to support T2D patients in enhancing their quality of life and mitigating the complications associated with the condition. The Foundation has partnered with the Association for Diabetes and Obesity Reversal (ADORE) to empower T2D patients to adopt healthy lifestyles and make dietary modifications that enable them to achieve and sustain normal blood sugar levels without medication.
To realize this goal, Infosys Foundation has facilitated the establishment of two Diabetes Reversal Counseling Centers in Pune and Nagpur in November 2022 and December 2022, respectively. In August 2022, the Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Programme was launched in collaboration with ADORE. The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2025.
As part of the Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Program, ADORE successfully organized free HbA1c testing camps in Pune and Nagpur. These camps identified over 100 individuals with diabetes and 350 individuals with pre-diabetes. As of March 4, 2023, a total of 568 registered Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) patients have enrolled in the lifestyle modification program.
CSR of Aditya Hero and HMCL Nagpur for Nagpur Police
Aditya Hero and Hero MotoCorp Locator Nagpur distributed 80 Hero two-wheelers and helmets to Nagpur Rural Police Force under their CSR initiative in May, this year. The motorcycles were handed over to Vishalji Anand, Superintendent of Police, Nagpur Rural Police, who accepted the motorcycles on behalf of Nagpur Rural Police Force from Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who graced the event.
In March this year, Aditya Hero along with HeroMotoCorp Ltd gifted 100 motorcycles and helmets to the Nagpur City Police Force. Last year they gifted 50 scooters to the Nagpur Women Police Force along with 500 helmets and 10 scooters to the NMC Fire Stations of Nagpur through the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Aditya Hero has been working tirelessly towards the cause of Road Safety and organise organize ‘Road Safety Camps’ across India throughout the year.
CSR of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute for skill training
Central Mine Planning & Design Institute, RI-IV, Nagpur through their CSR initiative, extended financial support for a skill development program for 120 unemployed youth from Maharashtra in October, 2022. The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited which is under the ownership of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India.
As part of this initiative, 60 youth have been trained in Machine Operator – Plastics Processing and sixty youth in Machine Operator – Injection Moulding Technology at CIPET – CSTS, Chandrapur, Nagpur. The training courses are aligned to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) & approved by National Skills Qualification Committee (NSQC) – National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
Western Coalfields
Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) is a Mini Ratna company headquartered in Nagpur. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coal India. WCL is mainly engaged in the mining and production of coal, and major consumers of the company are the power and steel sectors.
With a view to bringing meaningful change in the lives of the most important stakeholders – people residing in the WCL command area in particular and society at large, WCL undertakes various rural development and skilling initiatives in Nagpur. Pankh is Western Coalfields’ flagship CSR initiative introduced 4 years ago for menstrual hygiene of girl students in and around Nagpur. The company installs sanitary vending machines in schools and educational institutions. Pankh won the ‘Best Practices in CSR’ Award at the 6th International Conference on CSR held at IPE, Hyderabad.
WCL is one of the dominant players for CSR in Nagpur. There are various CSR interventions for gainful use of mine water discharge for drinking, irrigation and recharging of groundwater so as to mitigate the hardships faced due to water shortage by the locals residing near the mines. RO plants for supply of drinking water to local populace were installed in Nagpur and Chandrapur districts. The Company imparted skill training in various trades under the Udaan, Shakti, Kisan and Aarogya missions through its Skill Development Centres. Recently, WCL donated Rs. 3 crore to RST Cancer Hospital for people’s welfare under Corporate Social Responsibility. WCL has given Rs. 15.38 crore from its CSR fund for Oxygen plant at Nagpur & Chandrapur to tide over the second wave. Arrangement of Oxygen will be made in GMC, Mayo Hospital and AIIMS at Nagpur.
ICICI Bank
ICICI Academy for Skills was established in Nagpur on June 24, 2015. ICICI Academy for Skills is a national-level initiative started by the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, in order to meet the demand for skilled labour and give underprivileged youth a chance at gainful employment.
The centre has tied up with Tally Solutions as knowledge partner to help set up course content for providing training to the candidates. It has also tied up with industry partners to provide employment opportunities to the students who get trained at the academy. Top companies like Tech Mahindra, Team Lease, McDonalds and Pantaloons, among many others have recruited trainees from the academy at Nagpur.
ONGC
At Nagpur, ONGC has supported the setting up of National Cancer Institute, a 455 bedded quaternary care oncology centre. The institute will provide a world-class oncology treatment facility at affordable rates to the general public of Central India. The radio diagnostic equipment and construction of the first floor and ground floor of the institute has been funded by ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation).
The centre provides comprehensive cancer treatment, patient care and research through sustainable charity. In addition to providing general cancer care, the institute also creates speciality groups of highly skilled professionals who are masters in the treatment of a select group of cancers. The institute also plans to start University recognized training courses for nurses, paramedical staff and medical fraternity including super speciality training in Oncology and PhD programmes.
