Trade in your jeans for these do-it-all summer dresses

Featuring floaty fits and sorbet hues

I’ve always been a pants person—bootcut jeans, mom jeans, ankle-length cotton pants, flared linen trousers. Name it, I have it. Unlike shorts and dresses, they’re my all-season companions. This is partly because thigh chafing is a nightmare, particularly during summer, but also because I love the way they make my Kim K-like butt pop.

This summer, I chose sorbet-hued sleeveless blouses and flared trousers to beat the garmi, but it beat me instead. I lasted two days before my legs started to feel like they were melting in a sauna, and my torso turned hotter than an overheated HP laptop in the 2000s. It was time for a switch.

So, along with my anti-chafing solutions, I turned to the MVPs of Instagram for inspiration, and discovered some masterpieces. If, like me, you need a summer-friendly alternative to trousers, or just want to update your collection of dresses, let these influencer-approved dresses be your guiding force.

While browsing through Shetty’s Instagram, we came across this beautiful cut-out midi dress (₹3,150) from RadhaRaman, a brand you need to bookmark if wearable art is your vibe. Secret Garden Soiree dress by Sage by Mala

A one-shoulder cotton dress is comfortable and versatile. And Anupriya Kapur might have just helped us zero in on it with this midi dress (₹3,490) from Sage by Mala. It’s easy to dress it up or down depending on the occasion. You don’t need to overload on accessories either, a pair of gold hoops and some rings will complete the look. Plus, the one-shoulder strap highlights the collarbone and shoulders, drawing attention away from the bust.

Arabella

Nalia maxi dress by Arabella

Juhi Godambe is serving top-tier summer fashion inspiration with this off-white maxi dress (₹6,250) from Arabella. The pleats add movement to the fabric, camouflaging the midriff and hips and making it a flattering fit for all. The subtle tropical print is apt for the season, and you can elevate the look with embellished sandals and a messenger bag.

Nicobar

Tiered dress by Nicobar

Neembu-paani tops the charts of cool summer drinks and this yellow tiered dress (₹7,000) from Nicobar channels just that, giving us easy-breezy lemon squeezy feels. After we saw it on Tarini Manchanda’s feed, a shopping quest was inevitable. The A-line silhouette accentuates your figure, regardless of body type. The best part? It has pockets, making it an instant ‘yes to the dress’ from us. This can easily become the outfit you spend all summer in.

Noib

Grace Mini (poppy) dress by Noib

Browsing the Noib store feels like exploring a tropical jungle with its eclectic prints and bursts of colour. While they do have outfits in solid colours, the prints are simply captivating. Thanks to Aashna Shroff, we discovered this multi-hued dress (₹6,999) with its adorable balloon sleeves and modest mandarin collar. The vibrant print makes it definite head-turner, and we love how Shroff accessorised the dress with a pastel-blue bag, strappy shoes and minimal jewellery, allowing the dress to shine.

Bruges dress by Bouji

Quiet luxury. That’s the best descriptor for Bouji’s collection of dresses and co-ord sets that predominantly feature flowy satin and a monochrome palette. We love this effortless orange dress on Amrita Thakur, but if cut-outs aren’t your style, we’ve found an alternative. This ochre number (₹6,780) is perfect for an evening soiree (there’s a navy blue option too). The elegant bell sleeves steer attention away from heavy arms, and if you find the plunging neckline too deep, you can secure it in place with some fashion tape.

Baagh tier dress by Din Raat

The best summer dresses are an investment — you need to be able to revisit the outfit without it feeling outdated. And we found this summer’s perfect do-it-all dress on That boho girl aka Kritika Khurana’s Instagram feed. This pick (₹8,150) from Din Raat might feel slightly heavy on the pocket, but its breathable linen fabric makes it worthy of the price tag. The tiers balance out body proportions, making it a flattering silhouette without unnecessary volume. You can style it for a brunch date or garden tea-party with subtle jewellery and neutral accessories.

Jovi

Peachy maxi dress by Jovi

Whether as Mostly Sane or Dimple, Prajakta Koli consistently serves us cool-girl style goals. This muted yellow dress from Jovi screams summer, but since their catalogue didn’t have it anymore, we persisted in finding the next best thing. This peach maxi dress (₹4,900) checks all the boxes—soft pastel shade, flowy design, floral pattern and sleeveless cut. The flattering V-neck accentuating the bust is an added bonus.
